Academy Q&A
Academy Q&A

What is the TSC Academy Program?

The Academy allows recreational players (pre competitive ages) to train and play with kids of like abilities. This program was put in place to allow players to be challenged according to their abilities and to help them develop as a soccer player. The Academy program is also a great tool in preparing players for competitive soccer.

Why should my child participate in a Soccer Academy?

The Academy is NOT for players that find recreational soccer difficult.  The Academy presents greater challenges that meet the player’s needs.  It is for those players who want to be challenged more than their current program & foresee a pursuit in competitive soccer.

Are there tryouts for the Academy?

There are no tryouts for the Academy program.  Players will be placed in a “player-pool” that train & compete in games, based on their natural abilities & developmental progress.  By grouping players by abilities it maximizes and enhances player development.  Developmental progress allows opportunity for players to experience new challenges that echo’s their Player Development.

Can my child participate in Academy AND play on a recreational team?

As a general rule, TSC Academy players will either participate in an advanced academy league or play in friendlies with other surrounding academy programs. TSC Academy players will get the opportunity to play in several developmental matches throughout the season. Players in the TSC Academy will be working with the professional TSC staff 2-3 days a week.

Recreational teams or players NOT in the TSC Academy are encouraged to sign up for the MTsc Premier Development Program (PDP) to receive training from the TSC staff. Players or coaches interested in forming their own teams so children can play with their friends are also encouraged to register in the MTsc Friendship Leagues.

Where/When will Academy players participate in matches?

Developmental matches or friendlies will be set up for the Academy squads or they may also participate in an advanced Academy league. However, this will generally be determined by the coach.

There will be additional optional games such as tournaments, indoor etc. There will generally be an additional cost per player to participate in some of these. The coach or manager would have additional information.

Who will be the coaches?

The coaches will be provided & selected by Mark McIntosh, TSC Director of Coaching, and/or John Crouch, Academy Director.

When and where are the training sessions?

Each coach has set their own training schedules and you can find out when they are training by clicking on the appropriate team home page or call their hotline which can also be found on their team page. CLICK HERE to access team pages.

What is the training approach?

TSC's coaching staff are educated on the specifics of instructing young players. Youth coaches have a tremendous influence on the development of a child's life-long passion for the game. The TSC Academy curriculum focuses on developmentally appropriate training for children ages 6-11. The curriculum is a mix of educational and developmental theory combined with practical training and small-sided games.

TSC staff also apply the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) principles and John Crouch, TSC Administrator, is a certified PCA instructor.

In addition to the regular TSC staff trainers, guest trainers are invited to periodically provide specialized training – such as GOALIE, FITNESS, and SPEED training. Speed and Agility training is conducted by our partner, Allied Fitness.  Many of our Academy trainers also coach one of our HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL competitive teams. This ensures that players get exposure to demands of COMPETITIVE SOCCER at the next level.

What does the TSC Academy cost?

The annual registration cost to enroll in the program for 2010/11 will be $145. The annual registration fees will cover player registration, club administrative expenses, developmental games, special edition academy t-shirt, etc. The are also monthly dues $55 that are collected from your team manager to cover club and training fees.  These dues are collected each month from August through May. These fees will be outlined by the Academy manager or Academy administrator at the start of the season.

There may also be additional expenses for uniforms, field rentals, tournaments, indoor, etc. There are no discounts or refunds.

Who do I contact for questions and to register?
